Russian Language Day 2026 at the UNON.

The United Nations Office at Nairobi commemorates Russian Language Day, celebrating multilingualism, cultural diversity and the equal use of the six official languages of the United Nations.

The United Nations Office at Nairobi will commemorate Russian Language Day on Monday, 8 June 2026, as part of the United Nations' observance of language days celebrating multilingualism and cultural diversity.

Russian Language Day at the United Nations is observed annually on 6 June, the birthday of Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin, widely regarded as the founder of modern Russian literature. The observance forms part of the UN's broader commitment to multilingualism and the promotion of the equal use of the Organization's six official languages.

The UN language days were established to celebrate linguistic and cultural diversity and to promote the equal use of Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish throughout the Organization. The Nairobi commemoration will provide an opportunity to celebrate the Russian language, literature and culture, while highlighting the importance of language as a bridge for dialogue, mutual understanding and cooperation among peoples.
